We didn't have email access that last day in Ukraine, so I didn't get to update our blog. We were able to get our flights changed pretty quickly and got home last night around 5:00pm. We were so glad to see our kids.
We aren't sorry we went to Ukraine. God is healing our hearts, but we're still very sad. Of course, we had hoped for a different outcome. We find peace in God's sovereignty, though. We still have a desire to adopt a child, so we are praying about our next step. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and words of encouragement. We have been blessed with such wonderful friends and family.

Thanks for letting us know you're home safely. Please know that you will continue to be in our prayers. We can only imagine how challenging this outcome must be, but your faith in God's plan will help you cope.
We had a somewhat similar experience. We tried to adopt from Russia for 18 months. We never traveled there, but had 3 referrals fall through after we got the files, etc. We then switched to Ukraine and had some roadblocks so it felt like it was going to end up at a dead-end. However after traveling in Jan08, we realized that God's plan required us to be there on a specific day, because that was the first day our daughter was available for international adoption. So if your hearts still feel called to adopt, keep praying for God's guidance. He'll lead you down the right paths in his perfect timing!
Praying for your peace and comfort!
Kathy
God opens and closes doors. We never may know why he closes one and we may wonder why one is open that we have to go through. I know our journey also has been one of faith and so much is not shared via a blog, but know that there are people you don't know and have never met that can understand and relate to what you are going through. May you rest assured in God's love.
Thank you for sharing your story. Again, we are so sorry it did not turn out as planned. When the time is right and you have your heart has mended, would you mind sharing with us the age/sex/health status of the referrals you were presented with? So much of what we all know about Ukraine adoption is from these blogs. I hope I did not offend you by asking. PS == your children are darling! Your little girl looks just like mine did at that age. Oh how they grow so fast!
We can not imagine the despare that your hearts are feeling now. Although it is hard to remember sometimes, God does everything for a reason. I pray that your next step be clear and the meaning for your disappointment apparent.
Your in our prayers!!
Vicki, I am so excited to hear that your family has decided to take this direction with your lives. My husband and I were matched for adoption three times unsuccessfully. Each time we were just crushed and could not understand why God was not answering our prayers. The moment we saw our children we knew that He did answer our prayers...He just did it in His time. Now we cannot imagine our lives without them and we thank Him everyday for this wonderful gift. We will be praying for you.

Having been through adoption upheavals myself, I must say that God needs willing people to brave the unknown and go. To allow yourself to be used by Him is scary for the time being, but if we could only see His plan, how excited we would be! You may never know how he has used and maybe WILL USE your experience to glorify Him. May God bless you and give you peace! Miriam Johnson, SC
